ping chau

 

The island(ping chau) was once home to a thriving(번성하는) fishing and farm community of 3,000 people, but political(정치) turmoil(혼란) during(동안) the Cultural Revolution cut off (~자르다) commerce(무역, 상업) with the mainland(본토) and most villagers moved away.[3] In the 1950s, there were about 1,500 people living in the ten villages on the island. By the early 1970s, only a few elderly(노인들) people remained(없어지지 않고 남다) on the island.[4] In 2004, the last permanent(영구적인) resident(거주자) moved out of Tung Ping Chau. Some may return on weekends.(일부는 주말마다 갈수 있다.)
