In October 2006, the place I was born and grew up in, disappeared without a trace by new town development. Not even a year had passed. This place, full of my memories and history was filling up with high rise apartments. Now, I cannot track down my traces in that
place anymore. Where did my memory go? Where can I find
it? I wanted to save that place. I wanted to say that it was special to me. But no one was interested in my story. The city is always changing. You cannot
call it a city when it is not changing anymore. I am living in that city. The city I live
in is suffering every minute because of mass development. They dismantle all
the fine pavements, replace it with new. The flowers and trees are planted and
rooted out repeatedly. Everything in a city is easy to do. Easy to crush and
easy to build. They erase it out so perfectly and permanently that we are
unable to trace down anything that belonged to it. How violent it is to erase
our memory. Now, what is controlling this city? For
whom was this city built? I wished to save the things I thought was
precious. But it was impossible for me. Now I want to say out loud that we need to
remember and protect the things that are disappearing before our eyes. |
