Haja Production School is a creative learning space. The School was established with the aim to give young people a space where they can work, play and learn freely.

In 1997, Korea went through the IMF crisis, a serious economic crisis. At this time there were many issues in Korean society. The unemployment of young people was especially an urgent issue. Haja Center opened its doors in 1999 as a more active solution to the issue of young people's motivation crisis in a era of high unemployment. Haja started out as a social and cultural experiment, as a space for young people who actively look for what they want to do and how they want to lead their lives.

The teenagers who were at Haja Center at the beginning said, 'We have stopped going to school, but this does not mean we have stopped learning'. As this saying goes the young people wanted to break free from the uniformed and standardized education which was centered around the university entrance examination. They wanted to plan and design their own learning and carry out continuous learning. Based on this need, the Haja Production School opened in 2001.

Through the humanities and civil cultural projects, the young people of Haja Production School learned, thought and discussed intensively about how to care for others as citizens living in this era, and about social contribution and energy. Together with this, they went through many experiences of reflection and awareness on the relationship between individuals and other people, and individuals and the world. With these experiences the young people learned to produce and make diverse cultural works through different mediums such as video, image/design and performance/music. As people living in the same era, the young people of Haja Production School aim to communicate and establish relations with the diverse people of society and the world through their awareness of the world. They want to go beyond the different cultures, background and regions, and make their networks to meet people within and beyond borders.

The word 'Haja' of Haja Production School means "Let's do it!". As a school where young people 'produce' and as a 'school without borders', HPS aims to be a school without walls, where young people living in this highly unstable era can plan their own learning and where they can carry out what they learn by themselves.
