Maesot is a small town on the border of Burma and Thailand.
The Maesot population is one hundred thousand, of these burmese is seventy thousand(70,000) and most people are illegal aliens.
Thais, Burmese and Chinese are living there. There is a small bridge that connects maesot and burma. this is the only road.
Maesot has refugee camps. Disputes in Burma makes them come to maesot.
They come to Mela camp.
surveillance of refugee camp is thorough but volunteers can visit.
And one hundred thousand(100,000)refugees live in refugee camp in mountainous region. maybe about 8.9% of Maesot population are burmese.
most people is IDP so they move for living in the refugee camp. IDP are people who are forced to leave their homes and hometown.
Foreign residents are half of the NGO activists, the other half is governmental employees of each countries. Governmental employees grasp internal affairs of burma and fabricate data. When we went to Maesot, we met many NGO groups. we thought NGO groups are doing for Burma. there are AAPP and Heart school, etc... many NGO groups talk about many things of Maesot, among them the most interesting was about education.
there are 60 schools in downtown. kindergarten and elementary school are Unlicensed because government of burma don't acknowledge curriculum of burma.
if one hundred students graduate elementary school, most students can't go to middle school.
not only education but there are other problems, for example, because money is what they need now the students can not think about their future freely so HPS will make a school with maung zaw to help with these problems and we always think about education of Burma.
many people in the world are interested in world refugees. June 20th is world refugees day. there are many refugees then we thought in the world so we need to think about the refugees. we should take refugees day as an opptunity to think about refugees
