The most important thing you should know about Paliyan social behavior is that each person owes everybody else respect.

Paliyan 사회 행동에 대해 당신이 알아야 할 중요한 것은 각자 모두에게 또 다른 존경을 신세지고 있다는 것입니다.

And, if we analyze their word for "disrespect" it means treating others as if one is either above or below them.

그리고 만약 우리가 그들의 “무례함‘이라는 단어를 분석한다면 이것의 뜻은 무엇 우위이거나 아래 둘 중 하나로 대하는 것입니다.

Not treating others as if one is above them is easy to understand.

그들 우위 하나로써 대하지 않는 나머지는 이해하기 쉽습니다.

Being bossy, speaking loudly about what others ought to do, or embarrassing them is offensive because it is seen as putting them down.

우두머리처럼 구는, 크게 말하는 것에 대해 나머지는 반드시 하거나 혹은 그들의 당황은 공격적인데 이것은 그들을 깔아뭉개는 것처럼 보이기 때문입니다.

Treating others as if they should take care of you is just as undesirable, because you are failing to do what is expected of you -- to be self-reliant.

Of course children, the elderly, and people disabled by illness are excused from this.

Imagine my surprise when, quite early in my field research, I heard a 75-year-old man I knew speaking with others about his 10-year-old stepdaughter and using words that expressed great respect for her.

The existence of such differences, however, is a delicate matter for Paliyans.

If certain individuals are know as productive or as "the experts" on important subjects, would it not mean that others might become dependent on them?

This would contradict their code of always having to be self-reliant.

이것은 항상 자신감/자립감을 갖는 그들의 규칙을 거부하는 것이다.

So it is understandable that people seemed very embarrassed when I started asking about their special capabilities.

그래서 내가 그들의 능력에 대해 묻기 시작하면 사람들은 쑥스러워 보이 데 이것은 당연하다.

And they were also reluctant to speak about anyone else's.

그리고 그들은 또한 다른 사람에 대해 이야기하는 것을 꺼린다.

From their viewpoint, for me even to ask such questions meant that I failed to understand the Paliyan belief that everyone deserves to be viewed as equal.
