Following a career as a freelance science and technology journalist, Kris de DECKER founded Low-tech Magazine, his own online publication, in 2007. Kris refuses to assume that every problem has a high-tech solution. Instead, he looks for inspiration in past and often forgotten knowledge and technologies. Kris spends his time researching old books, specialized libraries and obscure websites, talking to artisans and historians, and traveling using low-tech means such as bicycles and trains. Kris also publishes in Energy Bulletin and The Oil Drum, and co-authored a book on renewable energy. Kris shows his low-tech preferences in his participation in MaD 2013. He will travel by train from Barcelona to Hong Kong, which takes a month for a round-trip.

One of the most distinguished living psychologists in the world, Prof ZIMBARDO was the leader of the controversial Stanford Prison Experiment, in which decent university students crossed the line of good and evil in a dramatic simulation. Prof ZIMBARDO looks into how situations and social influences impel people to fall from grace or stand up as everyday heroes. He current directs Heroic Imagination Project, a multifaceted initiative utilizing social psychology for social good. He is also President of the American Psychological Association and is devoted to making psychology accessible and relevant to everyone.
