There are some differences between alternative schools and regular schools. The main difference is the aims and the education methods. In most of the regular schools in Korea, the curriculum is based on studies for entrance examination. In alternative schools, it does not concern the entrance examination. The curriculum is operated in alternative ways. Every alternative school has different education methods. It is because they all focus on different kinds of teenagers. So their visions are different from each other. There are 18 alternative schools in the Seoul Alternative Learning Community Network (All Net). They focus on the regular school drop out students, who want to continue their learning.

대안학교와 일반 제도권 학교 사이에는 몇 가지 차이점이 있다. 그 중 가장 큰 차이점은 목표와 학습 방식이다. 일반학교에서는 입시를 목표로 커리큘럼을 짠다. 반면 대안학교에서는 입시를 고려하지 않는다. 이들은 대안적인 방식의 학습으로 커리큘럼을 짠다. 각 학교마다의 교육방식은 다르다. 그 이유는 각 학교마다 중점을 두고 있는 청소년의 종류가 다르기 때문이다. 그렇기 때문에 각 학교마다 포부도 다를 수 밖에 없다. 서울시 대안교육 센터에 연결되어 있는 대안학교는 18개이다. 이들은 탈학교를 했지만 학습을 중단시키고 싶지 않은 학생들을 대상으로 학교를 운영하고 있다.
