HPS is a small school located in Seoul and is open for students who want to be poets saving the world, making meaningful steps to the society around us. We consider ourselves as a Kurikindi, a small humming bird who tries to save the burning forest by dropping drops of water with its small beak while other animals run away from the forest fire. Rather than sitting back and expecting some big heroes to save us from the crisis, we students move and act in order to make small, but important differences.

My name is Mang Gu. I'm a member of the video team in HPS. I graduated from an alternative elementary school and middle school. Alternative school is more diverse and the freedom in the education is better than regular school. The reason I came to HPS, was to find 'what I want to do in my career. I always think about it. But until now, I didn't find it. this is the first time coming here, so I don't know the details of measot culture, history or current situation. I am learning about measot in HPS.

HPS is an alternative school for high school courses. HPS's main concerns are peace, ecology and living together. HPS planned many events that we attended. In HPS we have three media groups: the design team, video team and music poformamce team. HPS has one story of kurikindi. The kurikindi is the smallest bird. In the story the forest was burning. All the other animals left the forest, but kurikindi stayed and dropped water one drop at a time to extinguish the forest fire. The other animals made fun of kurikindi for his efforts, but kurikindi said ''I'm just doing what i can do'. We follow kurkindi's teachings and we find what we can do in HPS.

SELF INTRODUCTION

Hello. my name is Guna. I am a student of Haja production school and also am a member of design team. Now I am learning to concern about our society with a responsibility in HPS. I realized that many things in the world are connected with myself, such as climate change or situations of Burma. I want to expand my perspective as a citizen of this world. I know what i s happening around me but on the other hand, I don't know what is happening in this world. But I don't want to be ignorant of what I don't know. 

I look forward to design more delightful life for everyone. In HPS, I want to use my media to contribute to people around me and the world. Also, I hope there are no gaps between my daily life and work. So I aim to be a designer without walls between me and outside of myself. Therefore in HPS, I plan my learning through understanding about our society and I will design my learning continuously.  

SCHOOL INTRODUCTION

Haja Production School is in Seoul, Korea. The school is formed by young people who want to  think about our society more deeply with a responsibility. There are students and advisors who have diverse backgrounds so we think about relationship between individuals together.       

In Haja Production School, we try to understand our society without prejudice. We want to have diverse perspective to see the wide world. We are constantly concerned about what is happening in this world. The reason is that we need to know about our life, and we also hope to empathize to each other. We realize that we are interconnected with one another and the society. 

So we are doing what we can do at the places where we can reach. This is both our learning and our aim. We want to expand our learning to other people so we can collaborate with more diverse people. 

We do diverse cultural works through different mediums such as design, video and music performance. We use these medium to communicate with other people. Because our work is not only for us. We want to contribute to the society through our work. Imagining a delightful life for everyone, we aim to be people who do what they can do with sensitivity. So now in HPS, we are only doing what we can do step by step. 

Higeo 

Hello, my name is Higeo. My name looks like japanese. My country was colonied by japan about 40 years. It is sad history. But fortunately, we could independent from japan. We had to throw diverse difficulties. And finally, we could be now on korea, we could have democracy. Even if it isn't perfect form of country, we are continuing. I think Burma is similar to korea. I didn't live on the past, so I don't know in detail, but I believe Burma can overcome what situation ever. And you can get peace to this country if you want.

학교 데스크탑 인터넷이 안 되서 대신 올려요. 

 동녘이 인트로-

우리 학교는 한국 서울에 있는 대안학교입니다. 한국의 대안학교란, 90년대부터 한국 사회 안에서 생겨나기 시작했습니다. 학교 안 청소년들이 하고 싶은 일이 있는데에도 그들이 받는 교육이 의미없다고 느끼고, 또 공교육과 사회의 시스템이 다양한 10대들의 개성과 삶의 방식을 존중하지 않은 채로 억압한다고 생각했습니다. 그리고 여러 대안학교가 생겼고 하자작업장학교와 학교가 있는 하자센터는 자율적 배움을 모토로 시작했습니다.

HPS is an alternative school in Seoul, Korea. 'Alternative school' has begun since 90's in Korean society. Many teenagers in regular school felt that the education system of their school had no meaning because they already knew what they wanted to do. They also thought that the public education system and atmosphere of the society were suppressing them without respecting their personalities or diverse ways of making a living. Then, the alternative schools were created for example HPS and HAJA Center. HPS and other alternative schools were established with their motto of autonomous learning.  

우리 학교는 서울의 대안학교로서, 음악 공연/디자인/영상 등의 3팀의 매체학습이 있고 매일 한시간씩 글로비시 수업도 합니다. 또 여러 다양한 현장들과 다양한팀들의 프로젝트에도 같이 협업해보거나 공익활동이라고 불리는 일도 하고 있으며 여러 사람들과 함께 연대할 수 있는 이벤트를 기획하며 해보며 배우고 있습니다.

Haja production school has three teams which are the music performance team, design team and video team. We also take Globish lessons every day. We learn by participating in diverse projects in different situations, often related to topics like re-development, climate change, Burmese refugees in Thailand and so on. In addition, we do what is known as common good activities and make events to form solidarity among many people.

지금 하자작업장학교는 시즌2로서 안데스 산맥으로부터의 한 이야기에 기반해서 시작합니다.

숲이 불타고 있었습니다.

모든 동물들은 도망가기에 바빴지만, 세상에서 가장 작은 새 크리킨디는 작은 부리로 물방울 하나 하나를 실어 불 타는 숲위로 떨어뜨렸습니다.

다른 동물들은 '저런다고 무슨 소용이 있어?'라며 비웃었습니다.

그러자 크리킨디가 말했습니다.

"나는 그저 내가 할 수 있는 일을 할 뿐이야"

HPS season 2 begins with a fable from the Andes Mountains.

The forest was burning.

All animals were busy escaping from the burning forest but the smallest bird called the 'Kurikindi' was dropping water drops on the fire with its tiny beak.

Other animals laughed at Kurikindi saying, 'That's useless.'

But then Kurikindi answered,

"I'm just doing what I can do." 

우리는 이 이야기의 결말을 만드려 하고 있습니다. 이 세계 곳곳에서는 우리가 처한 위기들과 슬픈 일들이 벌어지고 있습니다. 때로는 이 사회 안에서 자신의 존재와 삶을 위협받기도 하고, 이제는 '지속가능성'이라는 말처럼 우리가 앞으로도 이 지구별 위에서 이 수많은 변화를 넘어 다른 존재들과 계속 살아갈 수 있을까 걱정스럽기도 합니다.  

우리 학교는 이 시대를, 세상을 살아가는 청소년으로서 생태와 평화, 그리고 통합에 대해서 생각해봅니다. 많은 경험들을 자신의 학습으로 바꾸고 다양한 관점에서 우리가 뭔가 해야겠다고 공감하는 것들을 위해서 우리가 할 수 있는 일을 찾으려 합니다. 다른 사람들과 함께 변화를 만들고 싶습니다.

 We are trying to make an end for this story, which is putting out the forest fire.

Nowadays, there are many crisis and tragedies happening in this world. Sometimes our lives and existence are threatened. It is doubtful whether we can sustain our lives with other beings on this planet despite the huge wave of change in this generation.

So we think about peace, ecology and living together as young people who are living in this world. We change various experiences to valuable life lessons. We are trying to find what we can do for the things we empathize with. We want to make difference with others.

안녕하세요, 제 이름은 동녘입니다. 동쪽이라는 뜻의 이름이에요.18살이고요, 하자작업장학교의 공연팀에 있습니다.저는 기타를 다루고, 퍼커션도 조금 할 줄 알아요. 그리고 노래를 만들고, 불러요. 뮤지션으로 있으려고 하기 때문이지요. 우리 공연팀은 기본적으로는 브라질리언 퍼커션을 연주하면서 퍼커션 공연이나, 같이부를 수 있는 노래와 춤을 나눕니다. 저는 꼭 뮤지션으로서만이 아니라, 문화적으로 우리가 참여하고, 다른 사람들과 함께 각자 할 수 있는 일을 모을 수 있는 일을하고 싶습니다.

Hello, my name is Dongnyeok, which means the Eastern land. I'm 18 years old, and I'm in a music performance team of Haja Production School. I play the guitar and percussion. I make songs, and sing them, because I try to be a musician. The music performance team plays mostly Brazilian percussion, and performs with songs and dances which everyone can share. I want to work not only as a musician, but also participate in cultural events, and search for what we can all do together.

저는 세상에서 일어나는 여러 문제와 이슈에 무감각해지지 않으려고 합니다. 

이주민, 기후변화, 노동자, 난민 문제 등 크게만 보이지만 그래도 좌절하지 않고 슬픔을 넘어서 혼자로 부족하다면, 여러 사람이 모이거나, 만날 수 있는 커다란 축제를 만드는 것이 제 꿈입니다.

어떻게 세상에 기여할 수 있을지, 그리고 어떻게 그 일을 좀 더 크게 만들지 생각해보며 음악가로서 삶을 만들어가고 싶습니다. 

I try to face the issues and crises of the world with sensitivity. Migrants, climate change, workers, and refugees are topics we concentrate on. These topics may look big and frustrating but it is my dream to lessen the sadness, by gathering more people to participate and empathize with. I want to live my life as a musician and a cultural worker who thinks about how to contribute and influence the world for the better. 

작년에 메솟에 온 적이 있었는데, 이번이 두번째 방문입니다.

작년 메솟 여행을 다녀오고 나서, 나는 내 주위가 마냥 평화롭지만은 않고 그 밖에는 또 다른 현실들이 있다는 것을 알게 되었습니다. 나는 그 일들에 대해 무언가 해야한다고 느꼈습니다. 그래서 나는 이것이 '우리의' 일로서 받아들여질 수 있다고 생각하고, 때문에 내가 할 수 있는 일을하고 여러분과 어떤 지점에서 서로의 이야기를 나눌 수 있고, 자극받고, 또 연결될 수 있는지 생각해보고 있습니다.)

I came to Mae-sot last year, so this time is my second time visiting. 

After my first trip to Maesot, I came to know that there are different realities and my surroundings are not as peaceful as I once thought. I knew I had to do something about the cruel reality. So I think it can be accepted as “our” situation, that is why I'm doing what I can do and I’m thinking about how we can share our stories, get inspired and be connected with you.
